Motherhood storytelling session. Cookies and buttercups in the orchard.

Ever wondered what a family photo session with me might feel like? Then this journal post is for you. Oh how we frolicked in the orchard. The grass was long and the lushest I have ever seen it and I am, quite honestly, obsessed.

Family photo sessions at home, family photo sessions at special outdoor location, I love them all! Let’s go somewhere where we can play, you can be yourselves and I can join in with the fun of it all. For this session I travelled to Kent for wonderful Emily and her gorgeous kids.

All my family sessions are child led and we flow with your children/ families unique energy. We started playing by a fallen tree and immediately got the cookie snacks out. Snacks are essential, parents or not, we all know that working, or playing, on an empty stomach is hard work! Emily’s children showed me the flowers they liked and then the eldest was up for climbing trees, showing off some serious skills that really reminded me that I am real wuss when it comes to heights. His younger sister was keen to join in too! We brought it back down to the ground and played in that gorgeous lush green grass. There were cuddles, laughter and in between moments that always make my heart soar.

I always advise to bring drinks snacks and lean into the experience. Family photoshoot days are days to embrace the beautiful chaos of life with children, and to enjoy it. Use this day as a chance to connect and play with your family. Relax and try not worry about the camera. I use a small camera set up to help the experience feel more natural. At the end of the day I am just a friend with a camera, capturing moments with you and for you. We can start with an initial plan but there will always be flex to go with the energy of the day. I don’t shoot with a list or guide of poses but I may guide you to the light and can help you feel at ease if you start to feel uncomfortable in front of the camera.

On our way back home we spotted the last bluebells of the season and a perfect clearing to capture Emily breastfeeding her toddler. I loved this moment.

If you feel called to document this season or have any questions on how to work with me, my inbox is open.
