The best time for baby photos is when it feels right for you

Father and newborn son, taken on 35mm.

I feel like I always say the same thing over and over again and the best time for most things is always when it feels best for you. As a family photographer, I want the people I photograph to feel relaxed, truly seen, and leave with beautiful images that capture the real emotion of the moment.

If you feel up to having newborn photos within the first two weeks to capture that fresh newborn look so you can hold onto that feeling forever, and if you feel well enough to do so, then let’s do this. Let’s capture that newborn scrunch, that newborn finger hold, there is nothing like it and it is beautiful.

Mother and tiny toes

However if it has been a difficult birth or start to motherhood or you just didn’t get around to it (there is SO MUCH to do!) do not worry you have not missed the moment. We can still make beautiful photos together and hold onto that feeling of now.

Here are 5 reasons why baby photos later on are still beautiful:

  1. There is time for everyone to get to the new rhythm of life now you know your baby more, there may be things you would like to capture like the way they cuddle into you or the way bed time goes in the late summer light.

  2. Your baby will have more facial expressions and more of their precious personality will shine through.

  3. A photoshoot is something to look forward to once the madness of the first few weeks have passed. There are so many appointments in the first few weeks of your baby’s new life that you may have felt stretched fitting in yet another thing.

  4. Every stage matters and you will love them all, they are all worth documenting.

  5. You may feel more relaxed and ready to have someone capture this time

Wherever you are within your fourth trimester, or beyond, I am contactable here to capture those small moments so you can hold onto them for a lifetime.
